Oontz Angle 3 Cambridge SoundWorks Bluetooth Speaker Review

Bluetooth speakers have become desirable in recent years due to the desire for better sound from mobile devices while still having the convenience of portability and not having wires to deal with.

There are plenty out there in the market to choose from, each with its own way of combining sound quality with wireless convenience and portability.

And there’s the Oontz Angle 3 by Cambridge SoundWorks, a Bluetooth speaker measuring 5 inches in length and sporting a water-resistant design.

Not Water Proof, but Water Resistant

Mind you, that’s “water resistant,” not “water proof.” If you dunk this thing into a swimming pool or a bathtub, it can still get ruined.

But if you spill your coffee on it or it got splashed a bit while you’re listening to music by the pool during summer, it should be fine.

Its water resistance has an IPX5 rating, which means that it can handle 12.5 liters of water per minute from all directions, but can’t be submerged in any way.

The Oontz Angle 3 looks both sleek and rugged in black, and its rounded triangular prism shape makes it both durable and portable, as well as easy to place on most surfaces.

Both the build quality and water resistance give it a ruggedness that makes it perfect for travel use.

The speaker grill in front is quite durable, as well as the plastic grills on the bottom that help push out bass tones. The two sides of the speakers have rubber slip cover, with the right side serving as the control panel for the speaker. The bottom has 2 long rubber feet that keeps the speaker from slipping.

On the control panel, there’s the play/pause button in the middle, volume up and down buttons, and a Bluetooth button for pairing the speaker to other devices.

The buttons being embossed on the side of the speakers through the rubber covering makes them not distracting at all while still being easily seen and used, as well as durable since they can be expected to hold up even when dropped or met with a significant impact.

The speakers themselves are two precision acoustic drivers that are pretty good at distinguishing mids and highs. The internal passive subwoofer delivers some pretty good bass as well, making the sound given out by this Bluetooth speaker fairly balanced despite being such a small package.

For a portable Bluetooth speaker, it actually doesn’t sound too bad at all, especially when considering its size. Even at top volume, it doesn’t sound like it’s blown out or distorted at all.

There is also a built-in microphone if you wish to use it as a speaker phone, making it perfect for conference calls on the go.

The balance of the audio means whether you’re banging out bass-heavy music, listening to podcasts or audiobooks, watching a movie through your mobile device, or talking to someone over your phone, you will be able to hear everything loud and clear.

Due to its solid construction, there’s barely any looseness or rattling to be expected from the Oontz Angle 3.

Despite its power, it’s only 2.5 inches wide, 5.25 inches long, 2.75 inches tall, and weighs only 170 grams.

It sports a 2200 mAh battery that can last for up to 7 hours of continuous use. It can be charged through its micro USB port, so you can hook it up to anything like an AC phone charger or a powerbank to juice it back up so you can keep it playing if you wish.

Its Bluetooth functionality is easy enough to use, making pairing to any sort of device a snap.

Whether it’s a laptop, tablet, smartphone, your Kindle, or even your television with Bluetooth capability, it should be able to pair up with any of them with no problem.

It also has an additional functionality of being able to hook up to a Chromecast so you can have Chromecast Audio right on this speaker.

While the Chromecast itself should be plugged into a power source while connected to the Oontz Angle 3, the fact that it has such a functionality is quite convenient.
