Postal ID Requirements and Application 2019 (Complete Guide)

Do you know that the new Postal ID is now considered as a valid ID and is widely accepted in various establishments and government offices?

Well, yes it is. That’s why many Filipinos get their own Postal ID to have a valid ID that they could present or submit when applying for a bank account or when dealing with government agencies.

Whether you’re a fresh graduate, or a newly married woman, or maybe you lost your valid ID, and you need to have one as soon as possible, you can easily apply for a Postal ID.

What is a Postal ID

The postal ID is a government-issued ID that you can apply for at the Philippine Postal Corporation.

Filipinos residing in the Philippines or abroad are eligible to apply for this ID.

Foreigners can also get a postal ID, but they must have been residing in the Philippines for at least 6 months.

How to Get Postal ID?

It is very easy to apply for a Postal ID online or at the Post Office. Here’s how:

Step 1

If you prefer to apply online, you may download the Postal ID form here or from the Philippine Postal ID website.

Save and print out 2 copies and fill it out with the required information (in red check marks).

If you want to go directly to the post office, just approach the officer and tell him you’re applying for a Postal ID and you will be given the application form. Fill it out completely.

Step 2

Prepare the required documents and bring them to the nearest Postal ID capture station.

Here is the list of the Postal ID capture stations. There are about 260 ID capture stations nationwide in designated post offices and select malls. You’ll see a clearly marked window for postal ID applications in the post office.

At the Postal ID capture station, you’ll be digitally photographed and your fingerprint will be taken.

Step 3

Pay ₱504 for the Postal ID fee and wait for your postal ID to get delivered to the address you have written in your application form.

How long will it take to be delivered? 

  • Within Metro Manila – approximately 10 to 15 working days
  • Island provinces and remote barangays – approximately 4 to 5 weeks

How to Apply for a Rush Postal ID?

If you want to apply for a Rush Postal ID, the steps are the same as above, except that you have to pay ₱650 inclusive of VAT.

Rush Postal ID Requirements and Applications are open Mondays to Fridays, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with next day release from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM daily.

Central Post Offices from Quezon City, Las Piñas, Makati, Parañaque and Valenzuela can now accept applicants of the rush postal ID for next day release.

Postal ID Requirements for Filipinos

  1. PROOF OF IDENTITY

You need to bring any one of the following to prove your identity:

  • Birth Certificate Issued by NSO or Local Civil Registry
  • Passport
  • Driver’s License
  • GSIS or SSS UMID Card

For married females, you need to bring original and photocopy of your marriage certificate.

If you don’t have any of the above list of IDs or document, you may submit any two of the following documents, at least one of these should have your photo and signature:

  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Certificate of Birth
  • Confirmation Certificate
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Elementary or High School Form 137
  • College or Post-Graduate Transcript of Records
  • BIR ID
  • Valid Alumni ID
  • Valid Basic Postal ID

  1. PROOF OF ADDRESS

You need to bring any one of the following:

  • Barangay Certificate of Residency – should be issued within 3 months prior to Postal ID application
  • Bank statement
  • Credit card statement
  • Utility bill (cable, electric, internet, landline, telephone, water)
  • Certified True Copy of Lease
  • Certified True Copy of Titles issued by the Land Registration Authority (LRA)
  • Certified True Copy of Real Estate Tax Receipt
  • School billing statement

Postal ID Requirements for Foreign Residents

If you are a foreigner and you have been living in the Philippines for at least 6 months, prepare the following documents for your Postal ID application:

  1. PROOF OF IDENTITY

You need to bring your Passport AND any one of the following documents and they must be valid for at least 6 months prior to application:

  • Alien Certificate of Registration Identity Card (ACRI-Card)
  • Long Stay Visitor Visa Extension (LSVVE)
  • Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)
  • Diplomatic Visa
  • Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV)
  1. PROOF OF ADDRESS

You need to submit any one of the following:

  • Barangay Certificate of Residency – issued within three (3) months prior to PID application
  • Certification or statement of account from hotel, transient home or any temporary residence within three (3) months prior to application
  • Certification from hotel, transient home or any temporary residence within three (3) months prior to application
  • Notarized, if applicable, Land, House or Condominium Lease Contract
  • Bank statement
  • Credit card statement
  • School billing statement
  • Utility bill (cable, electric, internet, landline, telephone, water)

Postal ID Validity

The Postal ID is valid for 3 years for Filipinos and for foreign residents with Special Retiree’s Resident Visa (SRRV).

For the rest of the foreign residents, it will be valid for 1 year only.

Postal ID Renewal

Here are the steps if you want to renew your Postal ID Requirements:

  1. Go to the nearest Post Office
  2. Fill out 2 copies of the Application Form
  3. Pay the fee and have your photograph and fingerprint taken
  4. Pick it up personally or wait for it to be delivered to your preferred address

What will I do if my Postal ID has been stolen or got lost? 

You may report it to the nearest Post Office. If you need to reapply for a new Postal ID, you have to follow the steps above and pay the same fee.

Can I use my Postal ID to receive or claim money in remittance centers? 

Yes. Most remittance centers honor or accept Postal ID as a valid ID. But just to make sure, you may bring another valid ID or another supporting document in case they ask for it.

Most government agencies and banks require at least 2 valid IDs to process transactions.

If you only have one valid ID, having a Postal ID will make it easier for you to transact with these institutions.

Aside from you can use it as a valid ID in various transactions, you can also avail of discounts, product or service upgrades, freebies, and other exclusive deals at different merchant partners across the country.

  2. Magkaiba po ba ang barangay clearance at certificate of residency? Kase pagsinesearch ko sila ang lumalabas lang barangay clearance eh

    • parang the same lang, pero ask ka na din sa barangay hall kung magkaiba ba to at kuha ka na lang kung ano kailangan to apply for new postal id.
