From P14,834, PO1 Salary will be increased to P29,668 after salary adjustments

Many soldiers and police officers have been hopeful that their salary will be increased after President Duterte promised a salary increase for military and uniformed personnel (MUP) last year.

It’s been a year since President Duterte announced the salary increase, but it was only on September 20, 2017, when the draft resolution doubling the salaries of select soldiers and police officers prepared by the Department of Budget and Management or DBM was concurred with by the Office of the President.

This draft resolution (Congress Joint Resolution) authorizes compensation adjustments for military and uniformed personnel (MUP) and it has already been endorsed by the Malacañang Palace.

Once the draft resolution is signed by both chambers of the Congress, the base pay will be effectively doubled for the following personnel:

  • Police Officer 1, Philippine National Police (PNP)
  • Private, Department of National Defense (DND)
  • Equivalent Ranks in the:
    • Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)
    • Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)
    • Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC)
    • Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and
    • National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA)

According to the DBM, from the current Police Officer 1 (PO1) base pay of P14,834, it will become P29,668. This is equivalent to 100% salary increase or two times their current salary.

“Overall, the adjustments will result in a 58.7% average increase in base pay for all MUP ranks effective January 1, 2018,” the DBM added.

Where will the funding for the salary increase come from?

The Department of Budget and Management said that the increase in the compensation of the military and uniformed personnel (MUP) will be funded from the:

  • Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund (MPBF), and
  • Any available allotment in the respective budgets of the agencies concerned

The DBM added that the base pay increase of police officers and military personnel will cost the government an additional P63.4 billion.

Once implemented, this salary increase for cops and soldiers will be a huge help not only to them but also to their families.

As most of us are probably aware of, our cops have been doing the best of their jobs to help the government in its war on drugs. Our soldiers in Marawi, on the other hand, have also been sacrificing their lives to fight against the Maute-ISIS members.

All military and uniformed personnel deserve this salary increase and hopefully, they can enjoy this sooner. (Video Source: UNTV News)
