How to Avail of the SSS Maternity Benefits

If you find out that you are pregnant, you can avail of the SSS maternity benefits from The Philippine Social Security System.

This benefit is available to all active pregnant female members of the SSS for so long as you are employed, self-employed, a voluntary member, or a member separated from employment who has paid three consecutive monthly contributions within the 12-month period covering the semester of contingency of childbirth or miscarriage.

But before you can avail of the SSS Maternity Benefits, you must first know if you are qualified.

Qualifying Conditions:

  1. The female SSS member has paid at least three monthly contributions within the 12-month period immediately preceding the semester of her childbirth or miscarriage.
  1. The female SSS member has given the required notification of her pregnancy to SSS through her employer if employed; or submitted the maternity notification directly to the SSS if separated from employment, a voluntary or self-employed member.

Note: The maternity benefit shall be paid only for the first 4 deliveries or miscarriages.

Semesters of Contingency

In SSS terms, there are 4 semesters of contingency, namely:

Semester 1: JAN    FEB    MAR   APR    MAY   JUN

Semester 2:   APR    MAY   JUN    JUL     AUG   SEP

Semester 3:   JULY  AUG   SEP    OCT    NOV   DEC

Semester 4:   OCT    NOV   DEC   JAN    FEB    MAR

  • If you are scheduled to give birth in May, your Semester of Contingency is Semester 1.

To be eligible to avail of the SSS Maternity Benefit, you should have paid at least 3 consecutive monthly contributions from January to December prior to your forthcoming delivery date in May.

  • If your expected delivery date is May, your Semester of Contingency is Semester 2.

This means that you should have made at least 3 consecutive monthly contributions from April to March.

  • If your Semester of Contingency is Semester 3 because your expected childbirth is set for October, you should have made at least 3 consecutive monthly contributions from July to June, counting 12 months back.

Step-by-Step Process of SSS Maternity Benefits Application

After making sure that your contributions are in order and up to date, there are several steps to do so that you can avail of the SSS Maternity Benefit.

Step 1:

Notify the SSS through the SSS Maternity Notification Form

It is very important that you notify the SSS that you are pregnant within 60 days from date of conception.  How to do this? You must submit the filled out SSS Maternity Notification Form, together with an ultrasound report as Proof of Pregnancy.

  • If you are employed, you course this through your Employer. Your Employer then has the responsibility of submitting the documents to the SSS either through an SSS branch counter or through the SSS website (sss.gov.ph).
  • If your are self-employed or a voluntary member (this includes OFW and NWS), you have to submit the SSS Maternity Notification Form and the ultrasound report as Proof of Pregnancy to an SSS branch counter or through the SSS website (sss.gov.ph).

Step 2:

Prepare and Process the necessary forms and IDs

Fill out the SSS Maternity Notification Form.  You can either download the form at this LINK or go the nearest SSS branch office.

Submit the filled out SSS Maternity Notification Form (MN) and get the duly stamped MN form or the Maternity Notification Submission Certification if MN is filed online.

Bring your UMID or SSS biometrics ID, or 2 valid IDs that show your photo, signature and date of birth.

Remember, the SSS Maternity Notification Form should be filed within 60 days from date of conception.

Step 3:

Prepare and File for SSS Maternity Benefit Reimbursement

  • If you are employed, you must fill out the SSS Maternity Benefit Reimbursement Application Form (MBRA).  This form can be downloaded through this LINK.

Through your employer, the filled out MBRA is submitted together with the duly stamped SSS Maternity Notification Form, the child’s duly registered birth or fetal death certificate.

Other medical records and histories are to be submitted corresponding to Caesarian Delivery, Complete Miscarriage, Incomplete Miscarriage, Ectopic Pregnancy and Hydatidiform Mole.

  • If you are self-employed, a voluntary member, or a member separated from employment, you must fill out the SSS Maternity Benefit Application Form (MBA).  This form can be downloaded through this LINK

You then present the filled out SSS Maternity Benefit Application form together with the duly stamped SSS Maternity Notification Form, the child’s duly registered birth or fetal death certificate.

Other medical records and histories are to be submitted corresponding to Caesarian Delivery, Complete Miscarriage, Incomplete Miscarriage, Ectopic Pregnancy and Hydatidiform Mole.

Step 4:

Enjoy the SSS Maternity Benefit

  • If you are an employed member, your employer will remit your SSS Maternity Benefit within 30 days after you file your maternity leave. Your employer advances this benefit.

SSS will then reimburse to your employer 100%  of the maternity benefit amount that you were paid.

  • If you are self-employed or a voluntary member or a member separated from employment, SSS will remit to payment through an SSS-accredited bank.
