Visita Iglesia is a popular Holy Week tradition here in the Philippines. It is a yearly sacrifice of many Catholics to visit 7 or 14 churches while reciting the Stations of the Cross and reflect on Jesus’ suffering. This is usually done on Maundy Thursday or Good Friday.
I’m blessed that I was able to visit 15 churches at last year’s Holy Week. I’m also grateful that my husband joined and prayed with me as we visit each church. After we visited 14 churches, we went back to our home parish, the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, to witness more of the Holy Week tradition.
I also joined the procession in our area that was headed by our Parish Priest which lasted for almost four hours. It was my first time to join this and I was really blessed and grateful that I made it. It was really tiring but it was all worth it knowing what God has sacrificed to save all of us.
For our Visita Iglesia 2017, we’re planning to visit churches within Metro Manila with our family on Maundy Thursday. I hope I could take pictures so I could share it with you here as well.
Have a blessed Holy Week to you and your family.
