We usually hear about Doctors, Nurses, Radio Technicians, and other more popular job positions in the medical or healthcare industry, but little did we know that there are also CSSD Technicians.
Who are they and what do they do?
Well, CSSD Technicians are also employees of the hospital or healthcare providers.
The CSSD Technician’s main responsibilities include decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of instruments and surgical trays. The CSSD Technician also manages inventory control and orders supplies.
They inspect, maintain, deliver and retrieve equipment and instruments for the surgery suite, emergency room (ER), and intensive care units (ICU).
CSSD stands for Central Sterile Services Department and is also known as Sterile Processing Department (SPD), while CSSD Technicians are also known as Sterile Processing Technicians.
In most hospitals and health care units, the CSSD Technician’s job is performed by Nurses who are trained in this department. But technically, CSSD Technicians are separate from nurses and their tasks and responsibilities are different.
Here in the Philippines, there are training schools that offer CSSD Technician Courses. Two of them are the International Institute of Sterile Services Management, Inc (IISSMI) and Cornerstone International College. They both have branches in Quezon City, near Cubao.
Many Filipinos enroll in the CSSD Training or Course because there is a high demand of this job abroad.
